TYPES OF VEHICLES THAT CAN BE EQUIPPED WITH AN AERIAL LADDER

News - Intro image
What types of vehicles can be equipped with an aerial ladder ? This is a question that RH Aerial Lift experts certainly get asked a lot, so we put together a brief answer.

WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLE DO YOU NEED ?

The minimum requirement is a vehicle with a 9,500 lb capacity. The choice of vehicle must always match the client’s needs in terms of use and accessories. Obviously, safety standards required by law must be respected. Here are vehicles commonly used to install aerial ladders: Ford T-350, Nissan NV3500, Mercedes Sprinter 3500, GM Savana 3500, Ford F-350, RAM 4500, Ford F-550, to name a few.

Little advice : if possible, always consult the manufacturer because there are many important technical specifications to consider before making your purchase.

DOES THE VEHICLE NEED OUTRIGGERS ?

It depends on the type of ladder vs the vehicle chosen and the safety standards required by the law. Outriggers are not required for the RH38, RH41 and RH44 (insulated or non-insulated) models under normal conditions of use. We have strict installation standards and require a stability test to be carried out for each installation. This test will determine whether outriggers are needed.

WHAT IS THE VEHICLE’S MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE HEIGHT ?

Maximum height laws can vary by geographical region, and it’s your responsibility to make sure that you comply with them. However, in North America, the maximum total height is typically 13’6” (including the aerial basket and any other accessories). We suggest you leave some clearance under this limit (e.g.: leave 2 inches of room in anticipation of winter conditions).

Note: This information may be subject to change based on the region and any modifications to standards, laws or others. HR Aerial Lift isn’t responsible for any mistakes that might occur. For this reason, you should always check the conformity of the above information by contacting one of our advisers, who will be happy to assist you.
