SUMMA METAL is proud to collaborate on the Îlot Rosemont construction project, which will be erected above the Rosemont subway station in Montreal.

THE PROJECT

In September 2019, the Municipal Housing Office of Montreal (Office municipal d’Habitation de Montréal, OMHM), in collaboration with the social economy company Bâtir son quartier, began its mega project, Îlot Rosemont, built above the Rosemont subway station, at the corner of Saint-Denis and Boulevard Rosemont, in Montreal. The project management has been entrusted to the company Pomerleau and the total project cost amounts to 112 million USD.

“We are proud to participate in this innovative project putting our expertise to work”, declared Leandro Stella, President of SUMMA METAL.

THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE BUILDING

Îlot Rosemont will have 193 affordable housing units for low-income seniors and offices where 300 OMHM employees will be working. The project also aims to achieve the revitalization of the former site of the Municipal workshops (Ateliers Municipaux) in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough.

The building, made up of two wings, one with eight floors and the other with ten, will integrate the bus terminal at the Rosemont station by covering part of it. The designers wanted to create a building with a straight-angle shape opening onto boulevard Rosemont and the Marc-Favreau library. In addition, an esplanade will allow for the creation of a public square that we hope will be very welcoming.

Besides being an important investment in Montreal’s economy, this project is a good example of a premier urban intervention that is aligned with the metropolitan land use and development plan from the Metropolitan Community of Montreal (Communauté Métropolitaine de Montréal), aimed at concentrating residential growth in TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) areas.
